Just as the pandemic brought with it the massive implementation of teleworking, online classes from home also came to revolutionize the way of interacting at home.
We know that the new logistics brings important challenges and that is why we give you some tips that can be used when guiding your children to better adapt to this new modality.
1. Reinforce the importance of learning
After more than a year of online classes, children and young people are likely to get bored. For this reason, it is important to encourage them the desire to learn and not focus their efforts only on fulfilling responsibilities. Also, a good practice is to take a tour of everything that has been achieved and learned in recent times.
2. Prepare materials for classes
It is good to generate routines and establish times. It is recommended that before class, students prepare their materials, as a way of mentally marking that their class period is about to begin. In the same way, this advice allows you to arrive better prepared for the meeting and avoid delays or distractions.
3. Support them with the use of technologies
Although we know many times that young people are better at handling technological devices than we do, it is always positive to help them verify that they work correctly before each class, especially with the younger ones.
Confirming the operation of the microphone, camera, headphones, among others, can be of great help to them.
4. Have an exclusive study space
Just as adults need a space to focus, so do students. Ideally, this place should be well lit, with enough space for materials, and out of the reach of possible distractions as much as possible. Each home has its own reality.
5. Balance offline activities
Young people by themselves use more technology than adults, so adding hours in front of the screens during their study hours can be harmful if you do not work properly. The best recommendation is to leave a space for them to carry out activities outside the screen, from reading a book, doing tasks on paper, playing sports to talking for a while with close family members can help.
6. Avoid vouching for them
One of the biggest temptations for parents during this period is to help their children during online classes, however, too much help may not be so beneficial. Students must be able to answer on their own to the instructions and/or questions from their teacher. Parents will be able to guide their children through situations in which they do not know how to respond, but it is not recommended that they give them the answers first hand.
Adapting to the new way of life in a pandemic has not been easy, however, with these little tips we can make this process easier for parents and their children.
